The Detroit Lions are aggressively overhauling their offensive leadership for the upcoming season.

Head coach Dan Campbell is building a new offensive brain trust, officially hiring Drew Petzing as offensive coordinator and adding former Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka in a significant senior role.

The move follows the departure of John Morton after just one season.

This new leadership combines two distinct philosophies to energize the playbook.

Petzing is known for a disciplined, run-heavy scheme, while Kafka brings innovative vertical passing concepts from his time in the Andy Reid coaching tree.

Kafka, a highly respected offensive mind, also adds valuable leadership experience after navigating a challenging 2025 season as New York’s interim coach.

This strategic shake-up is a clear signal from the front office that offensive stagnation will not be tolerated, aiming to maximize talent and bring more firepower to Ford Field.
